Instant Holograms on Metal Film could easily have been the title of a Stereolab album. The sound itself—disco meets Soviet lounge meets bossa nova meets krautrock meets a kind of Mario Kart-esque cacophony (a superstar is repeatedly captured)—makes it easy to tell which Anglo-French pop group is back with new material after fifteen years. Lætitia Sadier and co. have occasionally slipped into their own retro-futuristic grooves in the past, but here they're razor-sharp. So sharp that you can barely keep up.
