The fact that Mick Flannery's The House Must Win is the soundtrack to a musical based on his twenty-year-old debut album Evening Train, doesn't really matter. It also stands alone as a house, or rather as a pub, somewhere in New Orleans, where you can still smoke inside and where the Irish singer-songwriter (and stonemason) sings all sorts of sad stories with the help of his musician friends (Anaïs Mitchell, Jeffrey Martin, Lisa Hannigan). Tom Waits isn't there, but you can easily imagine him.
