In the year that Taylor Swift was shown to be perhaps a little too happy in love, thankfully West End Girl was released, a tell all A pop album and a miraculous return for Lily Allen . Her first album in seven years stems from her failed marriage to actor David Harbour—and Allen makes little effort to tame the tabloids. Take "Madeline," for example, in which she confronts the woman with whom her husband cheated—or the title track, which extensively explores the skewed balance in their marriage. It's all delicious—if you're into that sort of thing—but mainly because the songs are exceptionally tastefully crafted. Allen sometimes crammed too many ideas into a record, but this is a mature, timeless album. Sometimes danceable, sometimes lighthearted, and always painfully honest.
