The previous Sleaford Mods album UK GRIM was born from standstill; global standstill. On The Demise of Planet X we hear a planet that has started moving again post-pandemic, but with what consequences... Jason Williamson explains: "Three years later, that corpse has been split open by war, genocide, and the lingering psychological fallout of Covid whilst social media has mutated into a grotesque, twisted form of digital engineering. It feels like we're living among the ruins. A multi-layered abomination etched into our collective psyche.” Clearly. With such a collective meltdown, we can certainly use the satire and boundless ambition of the ever grumpy and humorous electro-punk duo. And they too call on some help, namely from BIG SPECIAL, actress Gwendoline Christie, Aldous Harding and, NB, Sue Tompkins of Life Without Buildings ( who have planned a show again after 24 years ).
