When avant-prog band Black Midi called it quits in 2024, bassist Cameron Picton's greatest desire was to make a singer-songwriter album. That didn't quite work out. While the eponymous debut from My New Band Believe is indeed fully acoustic (and Picton proves himself a very gifted lyricist) - it still (fortunately) goes a thousand different ways. Chamber pop adventures are interspersed with psychedelic excursions where sometimes, out of nowhere, an entire orchestra appears.
