Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young, two of Kurt Vile's biggest heroes, have both sung extensively about Philadelphia. But with all due respect, according to Vile: they have no idea what the city is really like. On Philadelphia's Been Good to Me, the indie rocker makes his own contribution. He stumbles and sways as usual – his slow moves, as well as his languid, drawling voice, are by now well-known. But this is no repetition of tricks: Vile is only getting better as a guitarist.
